Context.

While working for Bottle Rocket, I was the Lead UX Designer on a project to design and develop an application for Lowe's Pro Supply.

My team was made up of

  • 1 Project Manager
  • 1 Experience Architect
  • 1 Lead Visual Designer (myself)
  • 4 flutter developers

Problem

To date, Lowe's has only been able to offer LPS customers with an online and dated experience. With a handful of direct competitors out in the market, Lowe's needed to develop an application that was not only industry leading, but made it easier for LPS customers to be able to order supplies in "real time" on the job site and not have to keep a running list of items needed and purchase at the end of the day.

Solution

Design a system native e-commerce application that allows LPS customers to order directly from the job site.

Process

Each project brings new challenges, and within those challenges the process needs to be flexible. For the LPS application design our approach was:

  1. Research - We conducted research based not only on competitors in the market, but also great examples of other e-commerce experiences in other areas. This allowed for us to not only make sure we were keeping up with what competitors were offering, but also implement some awesome features that we were able to find during our overall research.
  2. Planning - Once we concluded our initial research analysis we began to gather all of our data that we collected and began creating user stories, task flows, and wireframes.
  3. Design - After a few rounds of making edits to our user stories, task flows, and wireframes I began designing the application. During this process, I am a firm believer in working "hand in hand" with development to ensure that what is being designed is actually feasible within the project timeframe.
  4. User Testing - I conducted multiple rounds of User Testing to ensure that we were meeting the expectations that were set during the research phase by both our team and the Lowe's team.
  5. Deployment - This project is currently being developed

Wire-framing.

In order to save time and not share the more than 400+ screens that I have, here are a few low fidelity examples of the LPS app!

Hi-fi comps.

Fortunately for this project, Lowes already has a well established brand/styleguide. After taking time to really perfect the wireframes, I was able to go from lo-fi to hi-fi very quickly! Below are the hi-fidelity screens.
