Defining an early-stage expert-network product

Synquery is an early-stage expert-network platform. I worked straight with the founders to define the core product and ship the marketing site.

Context

Synquery is an early-stage expert-network platform that connects organizations with specialized expertise. Delivered through Push Refresh, the work covered both the core product experience and the public marketing site. Early-stage work like this rewards judgment about what to build now and what to leave room for later.

The problem

A new product needs to feel clear and credible without overbuilding for a scale it has not reached. The challenge was defining foundations strong enough to trust, but flexible enough to evolve as the product and the company learned what mattered.

The marketing site was kept aligned with the product, so the early story felt consistent from first visit to first use.

What I did

  • Led product UX and UI for the core platform as Principal Product Designer
  • Designed and developed the marketing website end to end
  • Worked directly with the founders on product definition and positioning
  • Balanced speed, clarity, and room to grow in early-stage decisions

How I approached it

  • Focused on the core workflows that had to work well before anything else
  • Designed flexible patterns that could grow without a rebuild
  • Kept the product and website aligned so the story was consistent everywhere
  • Partnered closely with founders to turn an early vision into concrete decisions

Key decisions

  • Prioritized core workflows over edge-case features so the first release stayed focused
  • Designed flexible patterns that could grow without rework
  • Aligned the product and website so they told one coherent story
  • Chose clarity over feature density, which matters more when a product is still earning trust

What shipped

A cohesive product and web experience that gave Synquery clear foundations to launch from, with room to iterate quickly as the platform matured.

Reflection

Early-stage design is mostly judgment: knowing what deserves real structure now and what should stay loose. Working directly with founders meant moving fast without losing the thread between product decisions and how the company talked about itself. Doing both the product and the site kept that story consistent from the first screen to the homepage.
